What You Should Know About "Pocket" Real Estate Listings
Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 at 11:54pm. 215 Views, 0 Comments.
MPR recently did a story about the proliferation of private
sales in the Twin Cities real estate market. I thought that I would take some
time to talk about what a private real estate sale is and what its pros and
cons are.
A private real estate sale, otherwise known as a “sleeve” listing or a “pocket” listing, is a property for which a broker holds a signed listing agreement from the seller, but it is never actually advertised on a multiple listing system (MLS). Instead of putting the house on the local MLS, which exposes it to home buyers and buyer agents, the real estate agent restricts access to information about the house, hoping for a quick sale.
Pocket listings are surging in the local Twin Cities real estate market, and in many other…

Spring hasn’t yet sprung, but the spring Parade of Homes is in full swing right now! This annual event, sponsored by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), opened on March 2 for its three-week run. It doesn’t end until March 24, so you still have two weekends left to check it out!
This year, there are 374 new Twin Cities homes on the Parade of Homes tour. That’s a 22 percent increase from last year. Homes on the tour range in price from $139,999 for a two-bedroom condo in New Brighton to just under $3 million for a luxurious home on a lake in Maple Grove.
Like to homegaze? Though there are plenty of reasonably priced Twin Cities homes for average home buyers on the Parade of Homes, the tour includes more than a two dozen houses priced at…
Twin Cities Real Estate a Good Bet in 2013
Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 at 1:51am. 750 Views, 0 Comments.
Minneapolis real estate and other Twin Cities area communities had a good year in 2012 and it is expected that the trend will continue in 2013 for home sellers.
A few things are working in our favor here in Minnesota, as far as real estate sales are concerned.
First, Minnesota has a low unemployment rate. And we don’t just mean “relatively low,” as it’s hovering just above 5 percent right now.
Second, Minnesota, and in particular the Twin Cities area, has an incredible employment base. The state is home to huge corporations, small businesses, manufacturing, financial, creative, theaters, art. Being on the river, we even have longshoremen. Pretty much whatever you want to choose for a career, you can do here. This is leading to an influx in new residents…

This Sunday, November 11th is Veteran's Day (although the federal holiday is on Monday, giving many the day off). In honor of the day, and in honor of all those who have served this great country, the Lowry Avenue Bridge is going to be lighting up with the colors red, white, and blue. The bridge will be lit with said American theme from Saturday the 10th until Monday the 12th.
The Lowry Avenue Bridge just reopened in late October and is fitted with programmable LED lights that give the city freedom to light the bridge many different ways. The bridge will be changed based on city events or holidays.

Circle Pines: A Perfect Suburb
Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 at 1:31am. 793 Views, 0 Comments.
The Minnesota community of Circle Pines has been named the third-most "Perfect Suburb" in the country by CNBC.
Analysts at Location Inc. based their rankings on affordable housing, good schools and employment, low crime, and reasonable commutes. They chose the 10 metropolitan areas with the lowest unemployment rates and then factored in the other variables. At the top was Edmond, Okla., followed by Kensington, Md., in second. No other Minnesota cities made the list.
With 5,407 residents, Circle Pines is one of the smallest cities on the list, but it boasted some high marks:
Suburb of: Minneapolis – St. Paul
Metro area unemployment rate: 6.5%
Median house value: $203,954
Safer from crime than this percent of all U.S. communities: 55%
Circle Pines is a small city…
St. Louis Park Residents Love Living in Their City
Monday, July 11th, 2011 at 11:38pm. 806 Views, 0 Comments.
People who live in St. Louis Park are really happy with their city compared to the ratings people in other Minnesota locations give their towns.
A citywide survey conducted this spring "took the temperature" of St. Louis Park residents. The poll was part of a city effort to track trends and check priorities. Mayor Jeff Jacobs and City Manager Tom Harmening were pleased with the results.
And they had plenty of reason to be. Survey firm Decision Resources told St. Louis Park officials that the ratings they found are among the highest they have seen in the many Twin Cities communities they have surveyed. A resounding 97% of residents rated the quality of life in St. Louis Park MN as excellent or good. About 95% of polled residents said they…
The streets of the Twin Cities are lined with green gold
Wednesday, June 15th, 2011 at 7:45pm. 716 Views, 1 Comments.
Those who live in or visit the Twin Cities probably have seen how many trees we have along our streets, avenues and boulevards.
Recently, a first-of-its-kind study was completed that used high-resolution satellite technology to analyze the tree canopy of the Twin Cities. The study was carried out by a team of University of Minnesota researchers. High-resolution satellite technology was used to examine Minneapolis from above on a clear and cloudless day, recording and analyzing how much tree cover there, down to each individual property.
They study estimated Minneapolis' overall tree coverage to be 31.5%, higher than previous estimates using less precise methods. In St. Paul, the canopy cover rate was 32.5%.
Minneapolis' estimated 979,000 trees offer many…
Twin Cities are the Healthiest, Fittest in the U.S.
Thursday, June 9th, 2011 at 9:22pm. 610 Views, 1 Comments.
Minneapolis and St. Paul are the healthiest, fittest cities in the country, according to a new examination of the 50 most populous United States metro areas.
The annual American Fitness Index, from the American College of Sports Medicine, is based on health factors, including obesity rates, percentage of people who exercise, and the availability of parks, walking trails and farmers' markets.
Some of the reasons the Twin Cities achieved its high rank is due to a lower-than-average obesity rate, an above-average percentage of residents who exercise, a relatively low smoking rate and moderate-to-low rates of chronic health problems likes asthma, heart disease and diabetes. Oh, and Minneapolis and St. Paul have some of the best and most extensive parks and…
